good: food and atmosphere
bad: potatoes in asian food?
We went to Wild Ginger, a local Thai restaurant that has been around for a number of years, yet it was the first time I had visited. Many people I know have given this place good reviews and we were up for something new, so we had to check it out. This was also the first time I had ever tried Thai food.
When we entered we were quickly greeted by the host and asked if we wanted a table or cushions. We didn't quite understand so we said cushions, because we were thinking she meant a booth. Well it turns out it was a booth but not your normal one. The booth was a raised platform with a short table and cushions for you to sit on. We were asked to take our shoes off and we sat down. It felt kinda cool sitting, basically, on the ground.
Now about the food. I ordered the Massamam Curry and my dining companion had the Pad Thai. We decided to share so we could try a little of each. The Massamum Curry was made with a coconut curry sauce with chicken and potatoes served on rice. It had a real sweet and rich taste which was pretty foreign to my taste buds. The flavor was nice, but I am not sure I liked the potatoes because I have never had them in an Asian dish. The Pad Thai was excellent. It is a rice noodle dish with some kind of spicy sauce, chicken, carrots, and peanuts. A very good combination of flavors. Overall I would say that I would definitely order the Pad Thai again, but I would try something else before I ordered the Massamam Curry.
verdict: will try a new dish next time
